Quantifying the Impact: Unraveling the Influence of Climate Change on Extreme Weather Events - The World Weather Attribution Initiative

By attributing climate change to increased likelihood or intensity, WWA supports efforts to address climate-related challenges

The World Weather Attribution (WWA) initiative, founded in 2015, quantifies the impact of climate change on extreme weather events using advanced attribution science. Led by experts Dr. Friederike Otto and Dr. Geert Jan van Oldenborgh, WWA swiftly analyzes events using weather data and computer modeling to provide timely results. The research findings, publicly available shortly after the events occur, contribute to informed discussions about climate change and extreme weather, including their economic consequences. By attributing climate change to increased likelihood or intensity, WWA supports efforts to address climate-related challenges. With over 50 global attribution studies on various events, WWA's methods continue to improve and are published in peer-reviewed scientific literature, enhancing our understanding of the connections between climate change and extreme weather events.
